Step 2: Build a Database and Strategy to Reach State Employers

Engaging and informing employers about the importance of traffic safety can enhance public safety in your state. Establishing road safety policies within employer organizations can assure maximum operator and passenger safety and minimize the possibility of death or injury as a result of motor vehicle crashes.

As the SHSO Employer Outreach Coordinator, the next step to establishing an employer-based program in your state is to obtain contact information of organizations that do business in your state. Use the following information, resources, guides and samples to aid in building a database of employers in your state.

Support from your governor or other high-ranking government official in your state may be helpful when reaching out to employers. Use the following resources/guides and samples to aid in reaching out to employers in your state. 

Employers may want to establish a traffic safety program within their organization in addition to regularly receiving traffic safety information from you. The following resources/guides and samples can be disseminated to these employers to assist them with this effort.

Once a robust database of employers has been established, creating a coalition of employers may be helpful in further developing your state’s employer-based traffic safety program. The following resources/guides and samples can be used to recruit coalition members and establish coalition processes and proceedings.
