How to build a database of employers

As the SHSO Employer Outreach Coordinator, the next step to establishing an employer-based program in your state is to obtain contact information of organizations that do business in your state. Other state agencies are a great source to identify employers. Agencies that likely already have listings of public and private employers in your state may include:

  • Department of Insurance
  • Department of Labor
  • Worker’s Compensation

Reaching out to these agencies to obtain contact information for employers in your state is a great way to start. Other agencies or associations that focus on safety issues that can also be used as additional resources to identify employers to build your database. These agencies may include:

  • Town, City, and County Councils
  • State Safety Council
  • Local and State Chambers of Commerce
  • Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)
  • Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)
  • Traffic safety coalitions or councils
